We’ve been remodeling our house since nearly November. I am so done with it. The contractor said 2 weeks and doesn’t understand why we are getting antsy. Finally, work has been evident in the last week but here are some pictures and a reference picture to how it used to look.
For reference:

Man, I wish I could have a home with a spiffy, shiny kitchen like yours. I’m a sucker for dark wood furnishings matched with brushed aluminum appliances.

All it takes is money and patience mixed in with some depression.

Love those floors. And the kitchen cabinet paint. And the bar wall. Not sold on the reddish bar but I’m curious to see how it turns out. Hope it doesn’t take too much longer!

My dad and I literally pulled the bar out of its box last night and it is way more red than we thought. It will be a lot of work to change it so were still weighing our options. Considering a light sand and stain or full on paint.

You’ll always be glad you did it but swear you’ll never go through it again.
It looks fabulous.

We moved in the day we closed and have been living through this every day since. The next house we will be much better prepared for.

We lived in our house through two flooring changes and remodels, one by choice (the big make-over) and one because of flood damage (just wood flooring and paint). Both times, we wondered why we didn’t get a hotel while it was going on.
At this point, I don’t plan to ever move. I plan to die in this house.

Looking good. I spent roughly six weeks working on my mom’s place last year. Although I/we stayed in the house while working on it, nobody actually lived there. I recruited the wife and kids to help for two weeks and a friend of mine lent a hand for a couple of days, but the rest of the time I was a one-man band.
We didn’t take out any walls. It was a full clean out followed by lots of repairs plus paint in almost every room. Now that I’m done and the house is up for sale, my wife is looking at making upgrades here. I’m not looking forward to it.

We paid a guy because we wanted it done faster and right... So far it’s been right but...

The only guy we paid was to do some foundation work. I wish we’d had the cash to pay for more, but we didn’t. This project made me feel old, or at least way out of shape.

Your floors look great! Our house is under a constant remodel. There’s not a room that isn’t missing some trim.

Thanks! It’s manufactured Hickory so glue then laid it down. We thought we would like it but not as much as we do. It literally came out perfect.

Your contractor installed the floor onto the wall. I think you need a new contractor that doesn’t have his own gravity generator....

The people we bought our house from are friends and are also renovating their home... They watched the movie together and the husband said rather than laughing he cried because it was too real.

It is so fucking true, its not even funny. In the age before owning a house, it was funny. Now... worst nightmare.

In the old house, our bathroom was real crap. like you would not believe. Our new dog locked herself in there by accident while we were at work. In panic, she demolished a lot of it. Shower doors, some tile... some other crap. Dog is fine. Just shy of slightly ajar doors now. In any case, I started to remodel the bathroom... myself. Took close to a year. Wife still reminds me to this day how it took a year to redo a bathroom. And I remind her that I remodeled the bathroom myself, while still working full time and not taking any time off to work on it. She likes to rub it in... but I win every time. Keep it up, pal. It will be all the more rewarding when you see the fruits of your labor

as the internet likes to say, this escalated quickly. It went from tearing up carpet to tearing up carpet, hardwood floor, tearing down a wall (bearing and contained all the second floor heating).
so far i’ve i’ve torn up the carpet, torn down the wall and all the heating ducts, installed the hardwood, replaced the heating to the 3 bedrooms, painted the walls, painted the cabinets, painted the walls (first color clashed with the cabinets) tiled the entry (just this weekend).
still to do: reconnect the family room heating duct, connect the kitchen heating duct (still gets heat form the living room & dining room) build the island, build the bookcase/mantle, case the beam/posts, door trims, window trims baseboards.
